The Five Precepts (五戒):
Refraining from killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, false speech, and intoxicants (杀盗淫妄酒).

The Ten Good Deeds (十善):
Extending ethical behavior further by promoting generosity, honesty (no lying, no stealing, no divisive/ harsh/idle speech), compassion (no killing), and mindful living in thought, word, and action (no greed, no hatred, and no ignorance).(不杀,不盗,不淫邪,不妄语,不两舌,不恶口,不绮语,不贪,不嗔,不痴)
Together, these guidelines form a solid moral foundation, helping practitioners cultivate a peaceful mind and compassionate heart.

The Forty-Eight Great Vows of Amitabha Buddha

Revealed in the Infinite Life Sutra, Amitabha’s vow embodies boundless compassion and inclusivity. He promises to welcome anyone who sincerely chants his name—with just ten heartfelt recitations—as long as they maintain genuine faith and aspire to be reborn in the Pure Land. Even those burdened by the gravest offenses, including the five heinous crimes, are embraced, provided they immediately repent, focus wholly on his name, and nurture a sincere desire for rebirth in his realm. (The only exception applies to those who slander the Buddha’s teachings.)
This unified vow assures that no genuine seeker with a pure heart is ever beyond redemption, inviting all to experience the transformative power of Amitabha’s compassionate grace.

resilience and self-discipline. It features a determined figure walking a difficult path, surrounded by obstacles, yet illuminated by golden light, symbolizing wisdom, perseverance, and inner strength.

Faith, Vows, and Practice: The Three Keys to Liberation

Faith (信):
Embracing Amitabha’s vows with absolute certainty is paramount—any hint of doubt is a potent poison that can derail one’s spiritual journey. Complete trust in his compassionate support is essential.

Vows (愿):
A firm and unwavering resolve to attain rebirth in the Pure Land.

Practice (行):
Daily engagement in ethical conduct, mindful chanting of Amitabha’s name, and the integration of Buddhist teachings into every aspect of life solidify the path toward ultimate liberation.

The Power of Supreme Mantra—Amitabha’s Name

The mindful repetition of Amituofo (Amitabha) is one of the most powerful mantras. This practice, known as nianfo, serves multiple transformative purposes:
Ongoing Support
Chanting regularly—whether during everyday activities like walkingcooking, or resting, or in morning and evening cultivation sessions—fosters a profound connection with Amitabha’s compassionate presence, inviting divine protection and guidance.
Focus and Clarity
By focusing on Amitabha’s name, the mind naturally settles into calmness and unwavering faith. Over time, karmic obstacles and negative habitual tendencies gradually dissolve, allowing wisdom to grow bit by bit.
At the Moment of Death
According to Pure Land teachings—and confirmed by numerous accounts—if a person, at the very last moment of life, can wholeheartedly recall Amitabha, the Buddha and his attendants will appear to escort that individual to the Pure Land, ensuring a wondrous and blissful transition. Many witnesses have reported that after such a departure, the deceased’s body remains soft, the complexion turns rosy or appears younger, and a subtle fragrance may even be present.

The Five Core Sutras of Pure Land Buddhism

To fully comprehend the depth of Pure Land teachings, practitioners turn to five foundational scriptures, often referred to as the Five Core Sutras.

1. Infinite Life Sutra (无量寿经, Larger Sutra on Amitabha)
2.Amitabha Sutra (阿弥陀经, Smaller Sutra on Amitabha)
3.Contemplation Sutra (观无量寿经, Sutra on the Visualization of Amitabha Buddha)
4. The Chapter on the Perfect Penetration of Great Strength Bodhisattva
(出自《楞严经》的《大势至菩萨念佛圆通章》,简称“圆通章”)
(Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva’s Practice of Mindfulness of the Buddha)

5. The Chapter on the Practice and Vows of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva
(出自《华严经》的《普贤菩萨行愿品》,简称“行愿品”)
(Samantabhadra Bodhisattva’s Conduct and Vows)

Through careful study and reflection on these sutras, practitioners deepen their understanding of the Pure Land path and develop the insight needed for true liberation.

Both Confucius and the Buddha teach us:

When we stop clinging to desires,
our hearts find peace.
Letting go is not giving up
—it’s gaining freedom.

What is Amitabha's Pure Land?

Amitabha’s Pure Land (西方极乐世界) is a real, radiant world beyond suffering—a realm of infinite light, peace, and compassion. There is no aging, pain, or confusion—only clarity, joy, and the boundless wisdom of the Buddhas. To be reborn there is to escape the endless cycle of samsara and swiftly attain full enlightenment.

This luminous land is not just a paradise—it is a sacred campus lovingly established by Amitabha Buddha. With his boundless power and vast store of merit, he provides everything we need to reach the Bodhisattva stage and guarantees that we will never fall back. Through faith, sincere vows, and dedicated Nianfo practice, anyone can be reborn there, welcomed with joy and personally guided by Amitabha to become a Buddha.

Why do we chant “Amituofo”?

We chant “Amituofo” because Amitabha Buddha made 48 great vows to save all suffering beings. His 18th Vow promises that anyone who recites his name with sincere faith—even just ten times at the moment of death—can be reborn in the Pure Land and escape the endless cycle of suffering.

There are many powerful mantras and dharanis (神咒) in Buddhism, each with their own blessings and functions. But among them, “Amituofo” is one of the most powerful and accessible—because it’s the shortest, simplest, and most direct. It doesn’t require rituals, deep understanding, or perfect conditions—only a kind and pure heart.

In the beginning, you may or may not feel anything when chanting. That’s perfectly natural. The key is consistency and sincerity. Over time, as you gently master the practice—silently chanting “Amituofo” throughout your day with mindfulness and compassion—it becomes incredibly powerful. It will protect you, calm your mind, bring insight, and gradually dissolve confusion and suffering in your life.

To chant “Amituofo” is to link your mind with infinite light and life. It plants the seed of liberation, brings peace in this life, and opens the door to the Pure Land in the next.

What if I’m new, not religious, or struggling?

That’s okay. This path is open to everyone — especially those who are hurting. You don’t need to believe blindly. Start with one chant: Amituofo. Amitabha Buddha welcomes you with open arms.

Even if you're not in pain, Buddhism is a universal education—a profound path that reveals the true nature of life and the universe (诸法实相). By learning and practicing the Dharma, you can naturally improve your physical and mental health, develop greater wisdom, attract better fortune, create a more harmonious family life, extend your lifespan, and ensure a brighter future and rebirth—all without relying on blind belief.

What if I already have a religion?

It’s perfectly okay. Buddhism doesn’t ask you to convert or give up your faith. It’s not about converting — it’s about helping people live wiser, kinder, and more peaceful lives. Buddhism is not a religion, but an education that guides people toward wisdom and harmony. You’re welcome to learn from the teachings of the Buddha while continuing your current spiritual path. As Master Chin Kung said: "Your religion is like your family. Buddhism is like your teacher. You can have both. Buddhism is an education that helps you gain wisdom and live more peacefully."

Many people from different religious backgrounds find peace and clarity through Nianfo (chanting "Amituofo"), understanding of karma, and the Pure Land teachings — all without conflict. Amitabha Buddha’s compassion is universal. He welcomes all beings, regardless of background. Everyone is welcome to chant Amituofo, learn the teachings, and walk the Pure Land path — no matter where they come from.
