š§ How to Escape the Wheel of Six Realms
In Buddhism, the Wheel of Six Realms (å éč½®åå¾) vividly depicts the endless cycle of birth and death (Samsara, č½®å). This wheel is powered by karma and delusion, binding sentient beings to a life of repeated suffering. The Buddha taught that our soul (consciousness) doesnāt die with the bodyājust like changing clothes, the soul takes on a new form based on past karma.
š§ Master Chin Kung emphasized:
āAs long as we donāt remove greed (蓪), anger (å), ignorance (ē“), attachments (ę§ē), and delusions (å¦ę³), we will never escape the Wheel of Samsara.ā
There is no guarantee that we will be reborn as humans in the next life. Negative karma leads to rebirth in lower realmsāand unimaginable suffering.
š What Is the Wheel of Six Realms?
The Wheel of Six Realms is typically shown as a giant wheel held by Yama (éē½ē, the Lord of Death), symbolizing how sentient beings are trapped in Samsara, endlessly rotating through different realms of existence.
š The Center of the Wheel: The Three Poisons (äøęÆ)
At the center of the wheel are three symbolic animals:
- š Rooster (Greed, 蓪) ā Always craving, never satisfied.
- š Snake (Anger, å) ā Filled with hatred and resentment.
- š Pig (Ignorance, ē“) ā Blind to truth, bound by delusion.
These three poisons drive the wheel, binding us to rebirth.
āļø The Second Layer: Karma and Rebirth (åę¶č½®)
This layer shows beings rising or falling based on karma:
- āŖ White Path (äøåé) ā Leads to heavens and human realms (good karma).
- ā« Black Path (å č½é) ā Leads to lower realms (bad karma).
š The Outer Layer: The Six Realms of Rebirth (å é)
Each of the Six Realms reflects the quality of oneās past actions:
1ļøā£ Heavenly Beings (天é) ā Blissful lives, but impermanent.
2ļøā£ Humans (äŗŗé) ā Best opportunity for cultivation and liberation.
3ļøā£ Asuras (éæäæ®ē½é) ā Strong and proud, but consumed by jealousy.
4ļøā£ Animals (ēēé) ā Lives of ignorance and suffering.
5ļøā£ Hungry Ghosts (鄿鬼é) ā Endless craving, unfulfilled desire.
6ļøā£ Hell Beings (å°ē±é) ā Extreme suffering, born of severe karma.
š The Outer Rim: The Twelve Links of Dependent Origination (åäŗå ē¼)
These twelve links explain how ignorance gives rise to karma, leading to endless cycles of rebirth. Without wisdom, beings are trapped in Samsara forever.
ā ļø Rebirth as a Human Is Not Guaranteed
Many people mistakenly believe theyāll always be reborn as humans. But according to Buddhism, this is a dangerous illusion. Rebirth depends entirely on karma.
If we create negative karma, we can fall into:
- š¾ Animal realm ā Losing intelligence and freedom.
- š» Hungry ghost realm ā Overwhelmed by desire and starvation.
- š„ Hell realm ā Long-lasting, agonizing torment.
š¬ Master Chin Kung said:
āThe human body is hard to obtain. If we waste this life in greed, anger, and ignorance, we may never have another chance to practice the Dharma.ā
Falling into the lower realms is easy. Climbing out is incredibly hard.
š The Endless Suffering Within the Wheel of Samsara
The Buddha taught that as long as we remain inside the Wheel of Six Realms, we will experience continuous suffering:
- š¶ We are born ā š§ we age ā š¤ we get sick ā ā°ļø we die.
- Then the cycle begins again in another form.
Weāve gone through countless lives:
- š¶ As animals, blindly following instinct.
- š» As hungry ghosts, chasing unquenchable cravings.
- š§ As humans, wasting our chance in material desire.
š§āāļø Master Chin Kung reminded us:
āThe only way to escape suffering is to stop creating bad karma and sincerely seek rebirth in the Pure Land.ā
š¤ How to Escape the Wheel of Six Realms?
To escape Samsara, we must cut the root of rebirthādelusion, greed, anger, and attachment.
ā 1. Chant āAmitabha Buddhaā (éæ弄éä½)
- Amitabha Buddha made 48 great vows to save all beings from Samsara.
- By chanting His name sincerely, we can be reborn in the Pure Land.
- In the Pure Land, we are no longer subject to the Six Realms.
ā 2. Follow the Five Precepts and Ten Virtues (äŗęåå)
- Live ethically, avoid creating new bad karma.
- Precepts include not killing, stealing, lying, committing sexual misconduct, or using intoxicants.
ā 3. Let Go of Attachments (ę¾äøę§ē)
- Material things, status, relationshipsānone of them follow us after death.
- The more attached we are, the more trapped we become.
ā 4. Cultivate Great Compassion (äæ®ę ę²åæ)
- Help others, practice generosity, and protect all beings.
- Compassion purifies the heart and brings peace.
ā 5. Seek Rebirth in the Pure Land (ę±ēåå)
- The Western Pure Land (ęä¹äøē) is a realm free from suffering and guaranteed enlightenment.
- It is permanent, unlike the heaven realm, and leads directly to Buddhahood.
šø Conclusion: You Can Break Free from the Wheel of Samsara
āThe biggest mistake is thinking we will always be reborn as humans. Once we fall into the lower realms, we may be trapped for countless lifetimes.ā
